We’d marked what seemed like a petting zoo on our map mostly as a joke at first. We have farm animals in the U.S., why travel halfway around the world to pet a cow? The closer we got to it, the more it came up in conversation. Sure enough, we had to head out there. The drive itself was worth the trip. Storms rolling in, Lake Wakatipu glowing silver and blue, wind whipping around. And the petting zoo? One of the best stops we made. We even met an alpaca who was a few hours old and got to watch its first steps. 10/10, would return.
