A great blue heron takes a moment to preen itself atop a Cascade Falls Bald Cypress tree. The Green-Wood Cemetery was founded in 1838 as one of America’s first rural cemeteries. A tourist destination since its opening, the rolling hills and meandering paths served as an inspiration for Central Park. The 478 acre working cemetery is home to many famous ‘permanent residents’ and shines as a welcoming green-space for migratory birds passing through the densely populated NYC Metro area.
